Section:
Instrumental Music : Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble is a highly select group, hand picked each year. The group performs high school and collegiate level literature, and presents two concerts each semester. The group performs at various events on and off campus, and participates in at least 3 festivals in the spring. The Wind Ensemble also embarks on a tour each spring. Past destinations have included, New Zealand, Australia, San Francisco, Orlando, San Diego, the Pacific Northwest, and New Orleans.

Required Materials-
Mayhew Lake, 16 Chorales of J.S Bach
All other assigned music
Supplemental materials provided by the Director
Assigned school, or personal instrument
All necessary equipment (i.e. reeds, neckstrap, valve oil, etc.)
Pencil

Course Objectives-
To develop a thorough knowledge of music, its methods, and practices
To develop a knowledge of significant wind literature
To develop non-verbal communicative skills
To develop sight reading skills
To develop aural discrimination skills
To develop solo performance skills through one-on-a-part playing experiences

General Information-
This is a performance oriented class. As such, there will be scheduled rehearsals and performances outside of the school day. With this in mind, students should not accept commitments that will interfere with the activities of this ensemble.

Concert Attire-
The dress for men will be black tuxedo, tuxedo shirt, black bow tie, black socks, and black dress shoes. Arrangements for group rental or purchase may be made through the Director. The dress for ladies will be black, floor-length, formal gowns. As the gowns will need to be matching, the design for these is at the discretion of the Director.
Section Announcements
Wind Ensemble Photos
Photos for Wind Ensemble will take place in January. Information will be sent home as soon as it is received. Group, individual, section, and buddy photos may be purchased. All photos will be taken in concert dress.
Winter Concert
The Winter Concert will take place on Thursday, December 6th, at 7:00pm in Grace Mullen Auditorium. Call time is 6:00pm. All students must report in concert dress.
